SAMATIAN ISLAND

Samatian Island is a private, safari-chic haven set on the serene waters of Lake Baringo—offering a rare blend of adventure, culture, and exclusivity. With just four rooms (two doubles and two family units), accommodating up to 14 guests, this intimate island retreat is perfect for those seeking a scenic, off-the-beaten-path safari experience unlike any other in Kenya.

The island is a birdwatcher's paradise and a gateway to the fascinating culture of the Njemps people, who inhabit the lake's surrounding islands. Guests can also visit Ruko Community Conservancy, a visionary project founded by Ross and Caro Withey—owners of Roca River Camp—which brought together the once-warring Pokot and Njemps communities to protect the area’s environment and wildlife. Today, guests can walk among endangered giraffes and explore this extraordinary conservancy by boat, adding a meaningful, immersive element to their stay.

Samatian Island is available on both full board and self-catering basis, making it a flexible and appealing choice for private guided safaris and seasoned travellers seeking something truly untouched and authentic. Accessible only by boat, guests can reach the launch point by road or arrive via private charter to the nearby airstrip—adding a sense of adventure from the very beginning..
